Valentine Treats

Valentine Treats

I am on an endless quest for healthier and fun holiday treats for my son. I find it stressful to deal with holidays, birthdays and any other event that offers buffet tables of food my son and I should not eat. As I’ve delved deeper into a healthy eating style, I’ve become so conscious of the toxic junk our children are consuming and its effects on their health that I no longer can even donate my son’s candy he receives at various events. I’m sorry to say that if it makes its way to my home, it goes straight in the garbage. I decided that if I don’t want to...

Product Review – King Arthur GF Cake Mix…OMGoodness!

Product Review – King Arthur GF Cake Mix…OMGoodness!

In my opinion, King Arthur Flours (KAF) has always been the “Cadillac” of baking products. I used King Arthur flour when I was a “gluten eater” and now that they have a full line of gluten free baking products, I suspect this will continue to remain true. KAF was kind enough to provide me with many samples of their GF products to review. The first box I opened is the GF chocolate cake mix. My son, Sammy, celebrated his half birthday at school this past week and wanted a chocolate cake. Pamela’s brand of GF cake mix has always been my favorite but OMGoodness,...

Double Choco Chunk Cookies – OMGoodness!

Double Choco Chunk Cookies – OMGoodness!

As you may know, every now and then, a product, restaurant or recipe earns an “OMGoodness” rating from me. Well, this is one of ’em. This cookie is a chocolate lover’s dream. Cybele Pascal’s Allergen-free Baker’s Handbook is my favorite baking cookbook. The Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe was the first to win the approval of my household – even my gluten eaters. Now this Double Choco Chunk Cookie recipe has as well. The cookie plate was clean in no time flat and I have to say that they were not that hard to make. If you’re a chocolate...

Pumpkin Pecan Bars

Pumpkin Pecan Bars

I love having this recipe for last minute, unexpected potluck dinners and parties in the fall and early winter. Back in my “gluten eating days,” I made this for many parties with great success. People love it. I made it tonight for the first time, gluten free and vegan. It was a success. The texture was definitely different but the taste was still the same and, if you’d never had the gluten version, you would have never known the difference. Pumpkin Pecan Dessert Bars – Gluten Free and Vegan (can be made without nuts) One box gluten free yellow cake mix (I prefer...

GF Apple Cider Donuts

GF Apple Cider Donuts

I grew up in Michigan where apple orchards are abundant. Going to apple cider mills every fall and enjoying fresh steaming hot apple cider donuts right out of the fryer and pressed apple cider is a way of life for “Michiganders.” I always loved the fall season. In Michigan, the leaf color change is amazing. The beautiful colors coupled with the seasonal fall flavors, apple and cinnamon, is intoxicating. It’s one of the things I really miss about Michigan (besides my family, of course). A couple years ago I discovered Applehill in Placerville which is a lovely fall getaway...
