Restaurant Review | E&O Asian Kitchen | San Francisco

Recently, I was invited to try the gluten-free menu options at E&O Asian Kitchen in San Francisco, California. I tend to not think of Asian food when it comes to gluten-free dining so I was glad to be introduced to this restaurant. Right away I was very impressed even just upon entering. The interior design is amazing cloaked in warm inviting earth tones. My daughter, Ashlee, home from college, joined me for lunch. Presented with our gluten-free menus (I love it when a restaurant has a specific gluten-free menu), it was hard to choose there are so many GF options. We opted to begin with...

Chuck E Cheese goes gluten-free

Chuck E Cheese goes gluten-free

I remember going to Chuck E Cheese for the first time as a teenager. Everyone was amazed with the animated characters as seen below. Wow, saying this makes me feel very old.  Now, the kids barely pay attention to the animated band at Chuck E Cheese. They are more obsessed with the electronic games.Sam was over the moon when I told him Chuck E Cheese now has gluten free pizza. It has long been one of his favorite places to go. I read in an article that they are doing a thorough job with their gluten-free offerings so I decided to give it a try. I was very impressed. They offer a GF cheese...

Gluten-Free on AppleHill – A cider doughnut recipe included!

Gluten-Free on AppleHill – A cider doughnut recipe included!

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. Some of my best memories were made at various cider mills throughout Michigan where I grew up. There is nothing better than a steaming hot apple cider doughnut together with a cup of freshly pressed apple cider…pure heaven! I really missed the cider mills when I moved to California. Beside certain people, it was the one I really believed I could not live without. As a matter of fact, when I do visit family and friends in Michigan, I always try to do it in the fall when I can visit the cider mills too. One evening while out with some local...

Cheesecake Factory – Restaurant Review

Cheesecake Factory – Restaurant Review

I’ve continued to eat at The Cheesecake Factory since I became gluten-free seven  years ago. I have found that if I stick to fairly simple meals (plain salmon, brown rice and steamed veggies), most restaurants can handle it (most.…is the key word). I have never once became sick at the Cheesecake Factory after eating the plain salmon meal. So, I was very intrigued when I saw that they now have an official gluten-free menu. Needless to say, I rushed over. How exciting! It’s a totally independent menu. Nice! There were many of their older dishes on this new GF menu which must...

The GF Market…the importance of getting it right

The GF Market…the importance of getting it right

I think it’s safe to say that the words “gluten-free” have become a common household term. At a minimum, I think it’s captured everyone’s attention, even just for a fleeting moment, and made them contemplate, “Should I too be gluten-free…what’s the problem with gluten anyway?” As for food manufacturers, retailers and restaurants, they would be crazy not to take notice of this rapidly growing market. Mintel Data reports that new product launches claiming “gluten-free” rose from 600 in 2007 to 1600 in 2011. Packaged Facts, a...
