OMGoodness – Jules Thin Crust Pizza – Restaurant Review

OMGoodness – Jules Thin Crust Pizza – Restaurant Review

Jules Thin Crust pizza in Danville (located in the Livery) is our favorite gluten free pizza place. I love everything about this pizzeria experience. It has a clean modern decor with a nice dining area. They use green products to clean the tables and have recycle and compost waste options. The staff is always friendly and Heather, the owner, treats you like a good friend when you arrive…. Their pizza topping options are some of the most unique I’ve ever seen. My favorite is Meat Pie #4, “Kim’s pie,” with Hormone-free roasted chicken, portobello mushroom,...

Juice and Java Express – Restaurant Review

Juice and Java Express – Restaurant Review

I was delighted to find this little cafe right in the heart of Farmer’s Market in Downtown Pleasanton on W. Angela St. Not only do they serve organic coffee and tea in a quaint and cozy atmosphere but they have a whole menu of juice blends and smoothies with exotic names like Dragonfly, Green Isle, Love Birds, Beet Me Up (my personal favorite) and Fresh As A Cucumber. Their wide selection of fruits and vegetables are organic, when possible, and they offer several non-dairy boosts (flax seed, pumpkin seed and vit C) as well as a nice selection of organic non-dairy milks (almond,...

Book Review – Healthier without Wheat

Book Review – Healthier without Wheat

“Did nature ever intend for us to eat what we eat?,” Dr. Stephen Wangen. I love this question. This is how Dr. Wangen starts out his book, Healthier without Wheat. This is also how I start out when I’m coaching someone. I explain that I’m not advocating some “outlandish” eating style. I’m actually recommending to go back to the roots of our eating. Many people comment to me about the GFCF diet and how hard it must be. Many call it a “fad” and wonder how I stay healthy on it. This is a common Thanksgiving dinner discussion with family. Can...

Valentine Treats

Valentine Treats

I am on an endless quest for healthier and fun holiday treats for my son. I find it stressful to deal with holidays, birthdays and any other event that offers buffet tables of food my son and I should not eat. As I’ve delved deeper into a healthy eating style, I’ve become so conscious of the toxic junk our children are consuming and its effects on their health that I no longer can even donate my son’s candy he receives at various events. I’m sorry to say that if it makes its way to my home, it goes straight in the garbage. I decided that if I don’t want to...

Retailer Update – Safeway on Bernal Ave.

Retailer Update – Safeway on Bernal Ave.

When I read an article years ago that Safeway was to open a new “pilot store” called Safeway Lifestyle with an emphasis on organic and other specialty items (such as gluten free), I was ecstatic. Besides the fact that this store is seven minutes from my house, I was excited about the prospect of doing all my shopping under one roof. If you’re a GFCF eater, you know that shopping at one store would be pure luxury. Having gluten and non-gluten eaters in my house, I have to hit at least five to six stores to get all my shopping done. I read that this Safeway store was intended...
