Weeknight Gluten Free Cookbook Review and Giveaway

Weeknight Gluten Free Cookbook Review and Giveaway

This is a beautiful cookbook. The photography is amazing. I love a cookbook with good photos. It is full of such interesting recipes that I had a hard time deciding what recipes I wanted to try. I decided to stick with recipes I know I could use on a regular basis so I tried the Spaghetti with Heirloom Tomatoes, Olives and Herbs, the Quinoa Tabbouleh salad, Roasted Fish with Lemon-Almond Bread Crumbs and the Socca flat bread (something I’ve never had before). I was super excited to use produce from my garden. Below are freshly picked cherry tomatoes and rosemary. First, I made the...

GF Orzo Pasta Recipe Review and Giveaway

GF Orzo Pasta Recipe Review and Giveaway

I found this gluten-free orzo pasta recipe (below) on the TACA (Talk About Curing Autism) Web site. It’s the first time I’ve heard of gluten-free orzo type pasta. It’s amazing to me how many new GF pasta varieties are now available. The grainery that makes this unique orzo pasta, Edison Grainery, is located right here in the East Bay area, in Emeryville. They offer a really nice selection of gluten-free organic grains and pastas. I ordered organic amaranth (my “happy food”), quinoa flakes (for quinoa porridge), buckwheat and several bags of various GF pastas....

Roasted Butternut Squash and Apple Quinoa

Since going gluten-free, one my meal survival strategies is to weave the flavors of the season into my gluten-free grains (such as quinoa – pronounced keen-wah, brown rice, millet, buckwheat, teff and sorghum). I was recently asked to develop a fall quinoa recipe for a local magazine and in the process came up with this dish. I love the roasted flavors of the onion, apple and butternut squash  I think it could be a perfect side dish for the upcoming holiday dinners you may be attending. If you buy the squash already cut up from Trader Joe’s or Costco, this dish is super easy to...

Product Review – Quinoa/Rice Stuffing

Product Review – Quinoa/Rice Stuffing

I’ve noticed several new gluten free products at Williams-Sonoma (WS) lately. Having worked in the Housewares industry for over 8 years, I’ve always loved this store. It’s really too bad that most of the gluten free products they carry, have dairy in them. This includes the French Laundry Chef’s new flour mix, C4C, that WS stores are now carrying. This past weekend, I was able to try out one of their non-dairy, gluten free products for an early Thanksgiving meal with extended family. Along with my cranberry brussel sprouts and butternut squash kale, I brought...

The Plant Cafe Organic – OMGoodness!

The Plant Cafe Organic – OMGoodness!

Every once in a while a restaurant or product review that will earn an “OMGoodness” rating. Well this is one of them. This was such a yummy treat that I’m headed back this Saturday. I’ve got to have some more of the vegan cheesecake. Read on for all the yummy details… The Plant Cafe Organic I discovered this gem on Pier 3 right down the street from the Ferry Building. It’s a cute little cafe on the water with outdoor seating. The modern decor was fresh and clean feeling. It was really delightful to sit by the water and enjoy the sun and lite breeze. I love...
